What is DECA?

  • About DECA at Richfield High School

DECA is a high school association of students preparing for careers in marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship. Nationally, DECA has over 215,000 members in over 3,500 chapters. Minnesota DECA has over 2,000 members in over 50 chapters. DECA promotes leadership development, civic consciousness, social intelligence and vocational understanding. DECA chapter activities, classroom projects, and competitions integrate these skills into a "leadership kit" that members carry into their business and personal lives.

DECA and Marketing Education gives students the tools and aptitudes they need to pursue their dreams. DECA strives to provide its members with the opportunities to develop these tools through its program of competitive events. Our Competitive Events Program amplifies what you learn in the classroom and even includes the Virtual Business Challenge - a business management simulation - and other event competitions for which winners can earn college scholarships!!

Through participation in DECA activities, 92% of DECA members say they learned how to communicate thoughts and ideas, how to organize a presentation and more about what businesses expect from employees while gaining problem-solving skills.

Members say DECA prepared them academically for college and careers (88%), influenced their college plans (68%), influenced their career plans (75%), and influenced their interest in entrepreneurship and owning a business (61%).
