    All Safe & Supportive Schools Committee Meetings take place at the District Office.

    The District-Wide Safe and Supportive Schools advisory committee meet throughout the school year.  The group is comprised of directors, administrators, teachers, staff, parents and school board members.  Our work is focused around the RPS Strategic Goal 3: We will provide a welcoming, healthy, supportive, safe and caring environment.  An identified goal of this group is to work together to develop clear communication, policies, and practices around student attendance and behavior expectations.




    Work Accomplished 2018-19

    May 14, 2019
    Reviewed the work-to-date over that last calendar year, which included providing input around the Attendance Policy & Guidelines, Gender Inclusion Policy & Guidelines as well as Dress Code Policy & Guidelines.

    Reviewed the most recent drafts of the Behavior Policy and Guidelines, which included the suggested changes from other advisory groups such as students, staff and administrators.  In small groups, members reviewed each section and shared out thoughts, comments, and suggestions for changes.


    February 12, 2019
    Shared feedback on the Dress Code Policy draft from the RPS Board members as well as the Student Advisory Committee members.  Individuals asked questions, shared concerns and provided additional input on the policy.  

    Briefly reviewed the Behavior Violations Document draft, which will inform the revision of RPS's Student Behavior Policy.  Individuals looked at the draft and asked clarifying questions around the format and use of the document. 

    November 13, 2018
    Reviewed the Gender Inclusion Policy and Procedures.  After a careful review, the members asked questions, discussed options and generated suggestions for clarifications or changes to the policy. 

    Introduced the Behavior Violations document, including the history of developing the draft and our next steps to engage the advisory committee in adding clarity around the document. 


    October 23, 2018
    Reviewed the most recent draft of the attendance policy, reflecting suggested changes from all advisory groups.  In small groups, members reviewed each section and shared out additional specific suggestions for changes to the policy, including language and order of the sections. 

    August 14, 2018
    Clarified the difference between a policy and procedure to guide our work moving forward.

    Reviewed a summary of the community advisory feedback as well as the student advisory feedback on the attendance policy from May 2018. 

    Continued to work in small and large groups to review the current attendance policy and procedures, generating suggestions for proactive and strategic responses to attendance issues. 

    May 1, 2018
    Shared an overview of the Safe and Supportive School advisory committee work and the importance of all voices and perspectives. 

    Collectively developed norms for the group, or shared agreements on how the meeting will be conducted and participants will engage with the work.

    Participated in a grounding exercise on learning about and identifying an individual’s Good as a part of Innocent Classroom.

    Began reviewing the current attendance policy on excused absences, unexcused absences, and tardiness.  Within small groups, members brainstormed a list of questions, clarifications and recommended changes to the policy and then shared out their ideas to the large group.
